Vehicle classes

The 5 classes of vehicle you can restore: bikes, cars and trucks at a garage, boats at a boat yard. A restoration starts from a frame tag (a boat's is its hull ID plate) and needs every part listed, your Crafting proficiency at the class's level and the Engineering proficiency shown. Each boat takes its own marine parts: see its page.

Fuel

Every gas station is dry. Fuel comes from siphoning abandoned vehicles and from a fuel still. Homemade share is how much of the homemade-fuel penalty a gallon carries.

Fully homemade fuel burns 1.4 times as fast, is 1.25 times as loud at the exhaust, wears the engine with every gallon and stalls more.

At full revs a tank lasts about 87 minutes in a bike, 52 minutes in a car, 37 minutes in a truck, 26 minutes in a armored chassis, 158 minutes in a boat. Idling burns 12% of that, so mixed driving roughly doubles it.

Siphoning takes 2 seconds a gallon, up to 5.3 gal a go. Pouring a can in takes 2 seconds a gallon.

An abandoned vehicle holds 5% to 35% of its tank the first time anyone checks it, and a wreck up to 1.6 gal. Where fuel is scarce, the locals drained them first.

Starting, stalling and crashing

A vehicle is a machine that has sat for five years. Hold the ignition key to crank it.

Starting: Bike / ATV	A healthy engine has a 92% chance to catch each second you hold the ignition.
Starting: Car / Pickup	A healthy engine has a 80% chance to catch each second you hold the ignition.
Starting: Truck / 4x4	A healthy engine has a 72% chance to catch each second you hold the ignition.
Starting: Armored Chassis	A healthy engine has a 66% chance to catch each second you hold the ignition.
Starting: Boat	A healthy engine has a 100% chance to catch each second you hold the ignition.
Flooding	Crank for 6 seconds without a start and the engine floods. It will not catch for 20 seconds.
Battery	Cranking drains 1.2% of the battery a second. Under 10% the starter only clicks. A running engine charges it at 0.15% a second; lights left on with the engine off drain 0.037% a second.
A rough engine	Under 40% engine health it can stall under load or at idle.
Running dry	Under 2% of the tank the engine sputters and may die.
A dying engine	Under 15% engine health it makes 60% power and tops out near 44 mph.
A hard crash	Hitting something at 40 mph or more can break parts by where you were hit, and may jam the horn on, which brings the infected.
Recovering a wreck	Towing your wrecked vehicle back and making it drivable costs 150 Scrip and 1 x Vehicle Repair Kit.
